Soil Types
Laterite soil (Chemmaṇṇ) is found in the higher elevated areas.
Alluvial soil (Ekkal maṇṇu) and sand-mixed clay soil are seen in the plains.
Sandy soil is exclusively found in the coastal areas.
Hills are visible on all four sides of the Panchayat.
Alluvial soil, which shows no signs of soil erosion, is found in the Edakkara-Annasseri region.
Clay-like soil types are also observed in a few rare areas.
Land Use and History
In the eastern regions like Annasseri and Edakkara, there used to be abundant paddy fields and vegetable cultivation. However, due to changes in land utilization, with agricultural lands being converted into building plots, the paddy fields have transformed into coconut groves (theṅṅintōppukaḷ).

Historically, the Thalakulathur Panchayat area was situated across the Kozhikode and Kurumbranad Taluks of the former Madras State.
